2025urban design
A workshop was organized to reuse post-pandemic protective partitions, transforming them into displays for bags and platforms for exploring ideas in community-oriented urban design.
The venue was a section of sidewalk along Tokyo Metropolitan Route 304, characterized by double-installed guard pipes. The area had long faced issues such as street smoking, illegal bicycle parking, and littering.
Rather than remaining a space people simply pass through, the project aimed to transform the street into a place where people could stop, stay, and interact, creating a brighter and more open public environment.
As a result, approximately 200 visitors attended, ranging from passersby who stopped during traffic lights to those who came specifically for the event. The project provided an opportunity to share ideas about the potential of acrylic materials and the activation of public space.
A space that is usually empty was temporarily filled with activity and vitality.
